Core Web Vitals FAQs

Why do my grades change?

A small fluctuation in your scores over a short period of time is normal. Variations in server response, domain lookup, and asset loading times can all cause these fluctuations. Other programmes running concurrently on the device attempting to access your site can affect how quickly assets load.

If you notice large score fluctuations over time, this can be attributed to Google adjusting its scoring system.

What should I do with any leftover JS, CSS, or Google Fonts?

If you added unused JS, CSS, or Google fonts to your site, you can remove them from their original location.

When checking Web Vitals, your report may contain JS and CSS references that can be removed. This is usually not referring to the code you added, but to the default code that cannot be changed or removed.

Can I view the JS and CSS source code?

Because JS and CSS are essential to the platform, you cannot access their source files.

How can I get rid of render-blocking resources?

If you include JS in the site head, it may prevent the page content from loading while the JS renders. As a result, we recommend moving your JS to the body and using async or defer keywords. When you use async, you tell the browser to load both the script and the page contents at the same time. When you use defer, you tell the browser to run the script after the page has loaded.

What are the best page speed templates?

Although all templates have been well optimised, the most recent templates have been optimised for current guidelines. Look for the orange New icon on the template to see which templates were most recently released.

Should I place scripts in the head or the body?

Scripts should be added to the body. If your scripts are in the head, they must be parsed before any HTML or CSS can be rendered. This can cause LCP and FID to lag.

Why does my mobile score differ from my desktop score?

Because they rely on data, mobile devices are generally slower than desktop computers. A video, for example, loads faster on a desktop computer than it does on a mobile phone using data.
