Edit Sites on a Tablet

Melody Jaimon • January 6, 2023

Due to Apple's recent release for iPads (iPadOS), iPads will display the same view as desktops, implying that tablet customizations will not be displayed on iPadOS.

On your tablet, you can create and edit all of your websites. You can create, publish, and edit all of your sites with a single tap from anywhere.

All of the site editing options available on a desktop are now available on a tablet, including:

  • Create a new site
  • Add and remove widgets
  • Edit widgets
  • Upload images & add them to your site
  • Edit text and images

The new tablet editor is intended to make editing on the go simple and intuitive. However, some design elements differ from the responsive editor on the desktop.

Use the Top Bar

The top bar in the table editor has the same functionality as the desktop editor. To access the Developer Mode, Help, and Dashboard tabs, click the three dots icon.

Add and Edit Widgets on Tablets

When editing on your tablet, you cannot use the left menu to add widgets. To add widgets to a tablet, follow these steps:

  1. A black bar will appear when you click on any element on the site.
  2. The widget panel appears inline, to the right of the +Widget tab on the black bar. From this point, you can:
  3. Access all settings in the context menu
  4. Edit widgets
  5. Move widgets
  6. Add widgets inline
  7. Go to link

Widgets added to the site using the tablet editor are always placed beneath the element you chose. For instance, if you clicked on a button to bring up the black editing bar and then decided to add a new widget, the new widget appears beneath the selected button. After you've placed a widget, you can move it around by dragging and dropping it.

Widget handles can be found on the corners of each widget and element. These make resizing the widget simple.

Delete Widgets

On the black editing bar, there is no delete button. This is to ensure that no one accidentally deletes a widget. To remove a widget, go to the Settings menu and select Delete.

Upload Images

On tablets, you can upload a photo taken with the camera. You will be able to upload an image from iCloud if you are using an iPad.

Add Sections on Tablets

Click on any element to add a new section to the site. The + symbol will appear, allowing you to add a section.

Limitations of Tablet Editing

The following are features that are only visible or editable in the desktop responsive editor.

Non-Visible Elements on Tablet

Some elements are visible only on desktop websites and not on tablet websites. These components are as follows:

  • Parallax Backgrounds
  • Sticky Header
  • Video Backgrounds (in some devices)
  • Tooltips explaining that the feature is only usable on desktop

While these features may not be visible while editing your site on a tablet, this does not imply that they are not enabled on your desktop site. For example, you can enable a video background on a row while editing on a tablet, but that change will only be visible on your site's desktop version. When editing on a tablet, it will not appear.

Add Blogs

When editing on a tablet, blogs cannot be added to the site via the left menu. Blog widgets cannot be added to your site's pages. If you already have a blog on your site, you can edit the content and design of the blog widget; however, the manage blog menu is not accessible from the left menu.

Tooltips

The top bar, text editor, and closing the popup do not have tooltips. The tooltips can be found in the widgets.

Navigation Between Pages

When editing on a tablet, you cannot navigate between pages by using the navigation links. To navigate between pages, use the left menu to select the pages drop-down, then select the page link.

Personalization Rule Display

Existing personalization rules are not visible in the left menu's left panel. On a tablet, however, you can still add and edit personalization rules.
