IndexNow
Website Builder sites support and use IndexNow, a protocol that ensures your website's most recent content is crawled and indexed by supporting search engines immediately rather than passively waiting for web crawlers to find it. This new protocol is currently supported by Bing and Yandex. Without IndexNow, search engines can take several hours to several weeks to index new or updated content. While you wait for search engines to index your content, it will not be searchable. Because of this delay, you could miss out on opportunities to engage with your online audience.
Simply because your content is indexed faster does not imply that you will rank higher in search results. If you want to rank at the top of search engine results pages, you must still create unique, high-quality, SEO-optimised content and adhere to best practices for web content.
How IndexNow Works with Website Builder Sites
You don't need to do anything to start taking advantage of IndexNow's benefits; your Website Builder site will do it for you automatically. This saves you time and allows people who don't have technical skills to interact with IndexNow's API.
Website Builder provides support for the IndexNow API by:
- Identifying which pages have new content and sending only those to the IndexNow API.
- IndexNow security measures are met by creating a unique token for each website and submitting it to search engines. This prevents anyone from impersonating updated content on your website.
- Submitting updated content on your site automatically.
If you do not want search engines to index your context, you can disable indexing in the page settings of each page.
Pages and Popups have instructions on how to do this.
