Add Delivery Zones

Melody Jaimon • July 21, 2022

When you configure shipping options in your store, they are automatically allocated to the All Destinations zone, allowing customers from anywhere in the globe to select them and place orders.

You can limit a shipping opti
on to a specific destination area if you only want to offer it to that area. You can define a zone on the map (which is usually used for local delivery) or go further and select a region/country/states from the lists, or even limit a zone by zip codes.

Use Zones on Maps

To construct a delivery zone on a map:

  • Click eCommerce and then click Manage Store in the sidebar.
  • Click Shipping & Pickup and then the desired shipping method to create a zone.
  • Scroll down to Delivery zone, then pick Zone on Map, followed by the Create Zone button.
  • On the map, a polygon will be visible. use the polygon's drag handles to resize the delivery zone for this shipping or delivery method.
  • Click Save and Finish.

If you specify an address as your
Shipping Origin on the Shipping & Pickup page, it will be pinned to the map. To see how far you deliver in kilometers, right-click on the created polygon.

If you have the same delivery rate for different locations, click
+Add new zone on the map and define another area for your shipping option using additional polygons. Each zone can have up to 20 polygons.

Use Countries, States, Zip Codes

To create a zone for a delivery method or tax rate using a nation, state, and zip/postal code:

  • Click eCommerce and then click Manage Store in the sidebar.
  • Click Shipping & Pickup and select the desired shipping option, or click Settings, Taxes, and then click Manage Tax Rates.
  • Click Manage Zones.
  • Click the Add New Zone button.
  • Click Add Country to restrict the zone to a certain nation, then choose the nation from the drop-down menu and click Add Countries to confirm your selection. Or click Add Region to swiftly choose all nations from a certain region, such as North America, the European Union, or Africa.
  • Click Add State to restrict the zone to a certain U.S. state, then choose the state from the drop-down menu and click the Add States to confirm your selection. Leave the State option blank if you intend to ship to all states in the specified country.
  • If you add states to a zone that already contains multiple countries, you must add states for each of these nations.
  • Fill up the space for Zip/Postal codes to confine the zone to specific places inside the state, such as cities, towns, and streets. You can use the following wildcard symbols to construct the list of zipping/postal codes:
  • "?" corresponds to any single character
  • "*" matches any character count, even zero. Spaces are disregarded.
  • "_" corresponds to any amount of spaces (at least one)
  • “^” excludes certain zip codes (e.g., "432011" excludes only the zip number 432011; "432*" eliminates all zip codes beginning with "432").
  • Tap Save.

If you provide different shipping costs for other nations, states, etc., repeat the procedures above to create more zones.

When a customer enters an address within a zone at checkout, they will see all of your shipping options for that zone and can choose how they want you to ship their order. Otherwise, if a customer's address does not fall within one of your zones, they will see the message “Sorry, we do not ship to this location” and will be unable to place an order in your store.

Change Delivery Zones for a Shipping Option

You can need to attach another zone to a shipping option or add/remove a region from a shipping zone.

To adjust a shipping option's delivery zone:

  1. Click eCommerce and then click Manage Store in the sidebar.
  2. Pick Shipping & Pickup and then click the shipping method whose zone you wish to modify.
  3. Scroll to a Delivery zone.
  4. Depending on the zone's configuration:
  5. If you use delivery radius, click Edit Zone under Zone on a map and use the drag handles to shape the polygon as needed. Instead of a single common zone, you can put many zones in the desired locations on the map to exclude certain addresses from the delivery.
  6. Under Advanced settings, if you use country/states/zip codes to build a zone, pick another zone from the drop-down menu or click Create new zone if you don't have the zone you require in your shop and then select the newly formed zone from the drop-down menu.
  7. To update the zone itself, such as by adding or removing an area, click Manage zone, then click on the zone's name on the left and make the necessary changes. Note that the changes will apply globally, which means that if you have other shipping options assigned to this zone, your zone updates will also apply to those shipping options.

Set Up Destination Zones for the UK

Since there is no standard and definitive list of UK counties that should be used in online retailers, it is recommended to compute shipping rates for the UK using simply the Country name and Postal code.

When the United Kingdom is selected as the "Ship to" nation during checkout, the State (County) is presented as a text form rather than a drop-down list. Customers must provide the name of their county in the State (County) section. If you compute shipping prices based on county and a customer mistypes the county name during checkout, they will see a notice that there is no shipping to this area until the county name is entered correctly.

To reduce the negative impact of such typos at checkout, we propose leaving the list of States(Counties) in the UK Zone settings blank and restricting delivery zones using postal codes.

If you need to offer various prices for different regions in the United Kingdom, you can limit the zones by postal code, so that the shipping fee only applies to addresses inside specific postal codes.
