How to Add Your Business to Bing and Why It's Something You Need to Do

Melody Jaimon • May 11, 2021

Sitting with a client last week we ran through a few searches I was demonstrating how I was number one for website design in Wollongong, however I didn’t come up, not even my company’s name. Then I realised they were not using Google as the search engine. As a Google Marketer I had become so absorbed in Google that I wasn’t taking notice of other search engines.

As a business owner, it’s important that we take the necessary steps to increase our visibility online, no matter the niche.

So what is Bing?

Bing currently powers most of Yahoo and Microsoft's search functions, making it the second most popular search engine worldwide. Created and operated by Microsoft, it is Microsoft's default search engine.  Approximately 87.8% have Microsoft Windows installed, which means when the majority of people buy a new computer, guess what search engine it defaults to, and Love My Online Marketing wasn’t there.

What is Bing Places?

Bing Places is a business listing platform that’s quite similar to Google My Business in that it allows entrepreneurs to add information about their company, upload photos of their business and services, and manage their listing in a single location.

Once your business is listed in Bing Places, anyone who uses the Bing search engine, which has a monthly search volume of 12 billion, can easily discover you. Bing can also help with your SEO and increase your Google rankings, even if both search engines are competitors. How’s that possible? Well, it’s because Google, the world’s most popular search engine, looks beyond your Google listing and considers the number of listing websites your business is on.

So, when you add your business to Bing Places, you are making it easier and more convenient for local consumers to find your business and connect with you.

And in addition to everything that’s been already said, adding a business listing to Bing Places is also free, and the process of setting up your business is very easy and straightforward.

How to set up a business on Bing

Step 1:

Go to Bing Places. Since you are a new user to the platform, click on Get Started and Claim Your Business.

Step 2:

You will be presented with two options. If you already have a listing on Google My Business, you can import it to Bing Places by clicking the Import from Google My Business option. If you’re not on Google My Business, click the Claim or Add Your Business Manually option. In this example, we are going to click the second option.

Step 3:

Step 4:

Select your country/region and type in your business details. Once you’re done adding the information, click the Search button below.

Step 5:

Your business should appear in the search results. Click on the Claim and Edit Details button under your business name and information. If you aren’t logged into your Microsoft account, you will be transferred to a login page. Enter your login credentials to move on to the next page.

Step 6:

There will be a box on the left side of the page where you can add your business details. Most of the time, some details will already be filled in. Replace any instances of incorrect information. Once you’re satisfied with all the details, hit the Next button.

Step 7:

After all of the details have been filled out and submitted, Bing Places will ask you to verify your business. There are multiple options for verifying, so pick the one that you find the most convenient. When done verifying, you should receive a notification from Bing Places saying that your attempt to claim or add your company to their platform has been successful.

List Your Business on Bing Places Today!

Because of all its many powerful features and facilities, Bing Places is indeed an effective place for businesses to list their business online. It’s also free, very easy to set up, and can help with your SEO efforts.
