Online Payments

Melody Jaimon • July 27, 2022

Three parties are involved in the process of receiving money for your sales using an online payment method:

  • Your store.
  • The payment gateway is a special system that processes your customers' credit cards (or, for example, PayPal accounts) and charges them. This system is outside of your store but is connected to it through programming.
  • Your merchant account at the payment gateway, which is linked to your bank account.

To put it simply, your store connects to the payment gateway and sends the order information to it. The payment gateway then processes the customer's credit card and sends the money to your merchant account. Then you can withdraw the money in your bank account so you can pay your bills or take a trip.

Two payment methods exist for online transactions:

  • Accept credit cards and debit cards.
  • PayPal is the top payment processor in the United States. Choose a payment gateway through which your funds will be processed so that you can accept credit card payments. So your next question is...

Which payment gateway should I use for my online store?

Choosing a payment gateway entails selecting a business (payment processor) that matches the following requirements:

  • They accept payments in your region (where you live or operate your business) and accept your currency. It could be a company that only operates in your country, such as PayPal.
  • Their services meet your company's needs.
  • Their plans and rates are affordable. The majority of payment systems charge transaction fees. To find out the exact fees, you should contact the customer service department of the payment provider you're considering. A complete list of payment gateways that are already connected can be found below.

What online payment options are available?

Here is a list of all available online payment methods. The payment methods listed below are already integrated into your store and do not require any programming knowledge. Simply select a payment option in your store's Payments tab and follow the steps.

How do I get started taking credit cards?

  1. Create a bank account to which you will transfer your earnings from purchases.
  2. Choose a payment company/processor from the preceding list.
  3. Create an account with the selected company.
  4. Configure your store's payment method.
  5. Ensure that it functions correctly. Create a test product, such as a $0.01 item, and attempt to purchase it as a typical customer. If the payment is configured successfully, your order will be marked as Accepted in your control panel.
