Privacy Settings

You can ensure that your users are well-informed about the type of data and cookie information collected when they visit your page by using the Privacy Settings page. The privacy page and cookie notification are the two main tools you can enable in Privacy Settings.

See also our App Store and the Usercentrics app.

Privacy Page

A privacy page ensures that site visitors understand what information is being collected, how it is collected, how it is safeguarded, what the user and site owner's rights are, and more.

To add or update your site's privacy page:

  1. Click Settings in the left panel, then Privacy Settings.
  2. Toggle the Customize Privacy Page checkbox.
  3. This will prompt you to edit the Privacy page text. If your site did not previously have a privacy page, one will be added automatically. If you're ready to change the page's default text, click Customize.
  4. All elements that require customization are highlighted in red for your convenience.
  5. Make the necessary changes, and the privacy page will be added or updated when you republish the site.
  6. Any additional changes can be made by clicking Customize at any time.
  7. The default link for the privacy page is [yourdomain]/privacy, but this can be changed in the Privacy page URL field to any custom link.
  8. To add this link to your site's navigation, create a new page, set it to an external URL, and paste the privacy page URL into the provided field. See Pages and Popups for more information.
  9. To undo your changes on the default privacy page, click Reset to original page.

Cookie Notifications

Some countries, particularly those in the European Union, require websites to inform visitors that cookies are used. This ensures that your site complies with local law and is courteous to security-conscious visitors.

Follow these steps to enable Cookie Notifications on your site:

  1. Click Settings in the left panel, then Privacy Settings.
  2. Click the Activate cookie notification. Every visitor to your site will be informed that information about their visit is being collected in the form of cookies.
  3. To preview the cookie notification on all devices, click Preview notification. The cookie notification appears at the bottom of the page, beneath your site's content.
  4. You can use the default cookie notification text or customise it. You can add any text or links to the text field because it is free text.

Tracking & Site Cookies

Disable the use of cookies sent by the site to site visitors. This disables platform analytics, including Google Analytics and the default platform analytics, as well as the addition of cookies by personalisation rules.

Cookies are still set by third-party services (or widgets that include them), such as Facebook and Twitter because they are required to load the widgets.

To disable the use of cookies, click Settings in the left panel, then Privacy Settings, and finally the Disable Tracking Cookies toggle.

Disabling tracking cookies will halt the collection of statistics for your website as well as any tracking code you have added (for example, Facebook tracking pixels).

Check the legal requirements in the country of your target audience for cookie notifications, notification form, and relevant links to include in the notification text.
