Add Membership Pages

Melody Jaimon • February 6, 2023

By collecting valuable leads and user information, membership pages enable you to create high-converting and engaging sites. Add Membership features to restrict site page access depending on whether or not the site visitor is logged in.

Install and Add Membership Pages

Follow these steps to install a membership:

  1. Click Membership on the side panel.
  2. Click Add Membership to the site.

To add membership pages to your website and convert existing pages to membership pages, follow these steps:

  1. Click Pages in the editor’s side panel to convert pages to membership pages.
  2. Click +New Page to create a new membership page.
  3. Convert the existing page to a membership page by clicking the settings icon next to the page, then click Set Access.
  4. Tap Manage Membership then click the Membership Settings tab.
  5. Click Members Only. The page becomes accessible to members only. When you add a membership page for the first time, a new login page is added to the site’s pages list but is not visible. If you use subpages and want membership on them as well, you must restrict each page individually.

Note

Choose one of the following options to configure who can sign up as a member:

  • Everyone. Allows anyone who requests access to the membership page.
  • Only people approved manually. Each user who requests access must get manual approval. By clicking the Member Requests Recipients, you can set the site admin, site owner, or staff member to approve the membership requests.

Note

If access requires manual approval, users will see the Pending Page after requesting access until it is granted. However, in Preview Mode, users will immediately see the membership page.

To modify particular membership pages, go to the side panel, click
Pages and then under Membership Pages, click to edit the following:

  •  Pending page
  • Signup page
  • Access denied page

Note

Dynamic pages, store pages, and blog posts are not currently supported.

Set Site as Members Only

The entire site including all regular pages, blog posts and dynamic pages is restricted to only be available to members. Additionally, as you add new pages to the site, they are immediately tagged as members only.

To restrict all site content solely available to members:

  1. Click Membership on the side panel.
  2. Select Membership Settings.
  3. Click the Set entire site as Members-Only toggle. Turning this on immediately sets all site pages as members-only.

Configure Signup Page

To configure the signup page, do the following:

  1. Click pages on the side panel.
  2. Click the Signup page under Membership Pages.
  3. To access the design editor, click the Sign Up widget. You have the following options:

  • Title. Set the title of the widget.
  • Signup. Enable Google signup.
  • Terms of Service. Customise the terms of use text. We suggest adding links to your Privacy Page and Terms of Use page. For further details, see Privacy Settings.

Add Login Widget

After you’ve added membership to your site, you can add a login widget. To include the widget, follow these steps:

  1. Click Widgets on the side panel.
  2. Search for the login widget. Click and drag the widget to the desired location on the site.

Manage Site Members

To manage your site members:

  1. Click Membership on the side panel.
  2. Go to Site Members.
  3. To remove a member from the list, click the settings icon next to the member and tap Remove Member.
  4. To download a list of members, click Export to CSV.

Note

You must have the Manage Manage Free Apps permission to manage members. See Manage User Permissions for further details.

Approval-Based Membership

New members must request access to membership pages with approval-based membership, and the request must be accepted before they can have access to the membership pages.

To add approval-based membership and require new members to be approved before given access to membership pages:

  1. Click Membership on the side panel.
  2. Click Membership Settings.
  3. Select Only people approved manually to configure who can sign up as a member. Each user who requests access must be manually approved. Set the site admin, site owner, or staff member to approve membership requests, by clicking Member Requests Recipients.

To receive access to membership pages, new members must be approved. Membership requests are sent to the configured admin by email.

Approve Membership Requests

To provide access to new members who have requested access:

  1. Click Membership on the side panel.
  2. Click Site Members.
  3. When using an approval-based membership to approve a new member, click the settings next to the member and then click Approve Member.

Membership Plans

You can arrange your members and pages into Plans to enable only the predefined groups of members to see specific pages on your site. See Membership Plans for further details.

Remove Site Membership

You must modify the page access on all Membership Pages and republish the site to remove membership from a site. The login page will remain on the site. Once a membership is installed on a site, it cannot be removed.
