Purchase a Custom Domain

Melody Jaimon • September 22, 2022

Make it easy for customers to find your site by using a custom domain (for example, www.yoursite.com). To connect to your site, you need to purchase a domain name if you don't have one. A custom domain puts your brand front and centre, making your site more distinctive to visitors and allowing you to implement extra security measures.

Purchase a Domain with Google Domains

Through our integration with Google, you have the option to purchase a domain directly from the editor. When you acquire a domain in this way, Google configures the domain settings to function with your new responsive website. For domains acquired using the Google/Website Builder integration, there is no need to create CNAME records or a 301 redirect setup.

With Google Domains, you can publish a site and purchase a domain:

  1. In your editor's upper-right corner, click Publish.
  2. Click Change Site Address.
  3. Select Purchase a new domain for your site, then click Google Domains.
  4. Buy your domain from Google.

After completing the purchase, your new domain will be connected instantly to your website.

Purchase a Domain with Hover

Website Builder's partnership with Hover allows you to purchase a domain directly from the editor. When you acquire a domain in this way, Hover configures the domain settings to function with your new website. For domains acquired with the Hover/Website Builder integration, there is no need to establish CNAME records or 301 redirects.

To publish a site and acquire a domain using Hover:

  1. In your editor's upper-right corner, click Publish.
  2. Click Change Site Address.
  3. Choose Purchase a new domain for your site, then click Hover.
  4. Buy your domain name from Hover.

Following the purchase, you will be prompted to link your new domain to your website. To finish the setup, just click the button.

Other Domain Registrars

While we encourage purchasing your domain from the editor, you can also buy your new domain from any domain registrar (for example, GoDaddy.com).

When you buy your domain from a different registrar, you have to take extra steps to link it to your website. See
Go Live, Publish, and Set Up Your Domain for more information, or you can look in the domains section for specific instructions for your provider.

You don't need a custom domain name to view your site. You can use the default domain to publish your site (for example, yoursite.multiscreensite.com).

Make sure that the registrar you choose supports CNAME records and 301 redirects.

If you already own a domain, you can connect it to your site by following the steps
