HTML Widget

Melody Jaimon • February 6, 2023

Custom HTML may be used to extend the website builder's capabilities. This widget allows you to embed custom code into your site as well as third-party widgets such as videos, contact forms, and more.

Adding custom code can increase the functionality of your site, we recommend that you only add code from a reputable source. Only add code if you understand what it does and how to troubleshoot it if it doesn't work.

See
Developer Mode for additional information on using HTML in Developer Mode.

To include the widget:

  1. Click Widgets on the left panel.
  2. Drag the HTML widget into your website.

Visit Add Widgets for more information about adding widgets to your site.

Content Editor

Right-click the widget and select Edit Content to access the content editor.

The HTML widget allows you to insert custom HTML. Simply copy and paste your HTML into the given text box.

Design Editor

Right-click the widget and select Edit Design to open the design editor.

Widget Design contains information regarding design options that are not exclusive to this widget (for example, layout, style, or spacing).

  • **We are unable to debug bespoke code! **
  • Server-side scripts (such as PHP and ASP) will have no effect in this widget. We suggest using client-side  (Javascript, HTML) scripts only.
  • We recommend making a backup of your site before using custom code so that you may reload to a prior version if something goes wrong.
  • Because our editor uses HTTPS, if your script loads an external non-HTTPS file, it will not work.
  • Our system runs on jQuery 3.0, adding a new version of the jQuery library will frequently cause our editor to stop working. As a result, we recommend that any custom code you add utilises the jQuery 3.0 functions rather than attempting to re-initialize the library.
  • Onload events may not condition properly while Quick Navigation is enabled. If your script makes use of them, please turn off Quick Navigation as a first step in troubleshooting.

Add Connected Data

You may utilise the widget in your dynamic sites by inserting fields from a collection or the Content Library into the HTML. This is useful when you want to include an HTML widget in your dynamic pages without storing all of the HTML code in the collection. Instead, the collection merely stores the unique data or ID.

For example, if you want to embed a podcast from SoundCloud, an external calendar, or any customised code in your Dynamic Page and want it to be different on each dynamic page, you may store the ID in your collection and embed the code in the HTML widget. See Connected Data for further details.

To include linked data:

  1. Select Edit Content from the context menu when you right-click the HTML widget.
  2. Copy and paste your HTML code into the field, then delete the URL slug (the end of the URL) and save it for later.
  3. Click the Update.
  4. Click Edit Row on the top bar.
  5. Copy the URL slug you saved in step 2 and paste it into the Section Paragraph field.
  6. To access the context menu, right-click your HTML widget and select Edit Content.
  7. Select the data field you want to link the widget to by clicking Connect.
  8. Click Copy to Clipboard, then paste it into the section of the code where the URL slug was before you deleted it in step 2.
  9. Click Update.

When your HTML widget successfully connects to the data in the Content Library, it is marked with a blue Connected Data icon.
